2023 was a year that… existed? It genuinely felt supremely off in terms of the music industry’s broader moment. It didn’t feel quite as eventful as in year’s past, even considering that there were quite a few hype releases this year from various swathes of the industry, from the mystery identities and de-tuned riffs of Sleep Token to the absolute bangers resulting from JPEGMAFIA and Danny Brown spitting great weird bars over great beats, to the myriad of excellent hip hop projects from The Alchemist, new releases from the likes of Metallica and TesseracT, and even the long-awaited closure on the career of Dethklok.
