Monthly Album Roundup – January/February 2025

Welcome to the Decibel Boost Podcast album roundup for the months of January/February 2025. As the calendar rolls over from 2024 into 2025, we have to contend with… well the world falling apart in every conceivable way, but also the music industry trying to wind its way up and get the ball rolling. First: Alex touches on a handful of projects that notably include the grand reunion of Dream Theater with founding drummer Mike Portnoy. Next: Mark offers his thoughts on the new posthumous Mac Miller album, the Madvillainy demos, and (almost) every Boldy James album released this year so far. Afterwards: Robert discusses the incredibly avant-garde new project from Ethel Cain, a couple of sub-par deathcore projects from Paleface Swiss and Traitors, the excellent second album from death metal band Vacuous, and more! finally, as is tradition around these parts, there’s a new album by The Weeknd out in the world, so the crew collects their thoughts together on this final outing for their recent trilogy/”The Weeknd” moniker, Hurry Up Tomorrow.

Your hosts this month are Robert (@RobBarracuda), Alex (@Xandersthoughts), and Mark (@MAK2HybridMedia). Subscribe to the podcast on Apple Podcasts.
