Monthly Album Roundup – June/July 2019

Welcome to the Decibel Boost Podcast album roundup for the months of June/July 2019. Things around the site got quite busy in the past couple of months, so much so that we had to roll the June roundup into July, making for a pretty beefy set of albums to go through. First up: Alex offers some recommendations for the newest releases from black midi, Lil Nas X, and Thank You Scientist (along with some dunking on Madonna). Next: Mark digs into the much-hyped new collaboration between Freddie Gibbs & Madlib, the second full-length project from Rich Brian, the new solo releases from Benny The Butcher and Westside Gunn, and Ed Sheeran’s collaboration album, among others. Then: Robert is pleasantly surprised by the new Sum 41 album, praises new releases from Torche, Immortal Bird, and Lingua Ignota, and gets a little snarky on the new Combichrist. Finally: the group bands their collective efforts to take on one of the most critically reviled records of the entire year: The Big Day from Chance The Rapper.

(Spoiler: we all hated it.)
