Welcome to the Decibel Boost Podcast album roundup for the month of January 2022. The calendar resets anew for 2022, and thus so do the album roundups, which held a decent surprise or two given the typical expectation of January as kind of a dumping ground for most kinds of releases, not just in the medium of music. Starting things off, Alex discusses the latest releases from Dream Theater’s Lost Not Forgotten archive series in addition to new releases from Utada Hikaru, Paul Draper, and Steve Vai’s… very silly new guitar concept. Next up, Mark touches on the brand new albums from Earl Sweatshirt, Your Old Droog & Tha God Fahim, Rich Brian’s surprise new EP, and the newest release from Gunna (surprise: it’s not good). Afterwards, Robert discusses the new EP from producer Burial and the newest album from Boris alongside a handful of others. Finally, it looks like we only had to wait one week for there to be an extremely high profile best-of-the-year contender as the group once again collectively discusses The Weeknd with his latest surreal synth-dance pop opus, Dawn FM.
